2000

Please bare in mind that the draft of this blog post was written almost two months ago. In between the draft and final article, things like work, life, perfect riding weather, crappy riding weather, and the laziness to lug a bicycle, model & camera out for a photoshoot have all collided to create the perfect storm and generate enough inertia to delay the publication of this body of work. So here it is, some say better late than never...

A long time ago, in a galaxy far far away, the journey began with a singlespeed bicycle. No, not a fixie, but a singlespeed - there is a difference.

The multi-geared carbon fibre road bicycle has been out of action for a few weeks - the consequence of a worn and squared-off rear tyre that is riddled with minor flesh wounds, two flats in as many days, and replacement parts that have yet to arrive with the daily mail.

So, as fate would have it, the latest milestone would fall at the wheels of said singlespeed bicycle. A cold and wet July, coupled with late nights watching Le Tour, a cozy doona and weekend lazy bones means I have only just completed 2000 kilometres. I am pretty chuffed about it.

The weather is warming up and the days are getting longer. Bring on the long evening rides of spring and the next 1000 kilometres.

Notes:
1. The road bicycle has since been serviced, worn parts replaced and is now back in action. It is now faster than a speeding bullet! Well, I'm exaggerating - I need to work on the engine for any performance gains - this requires stronger leg muscles, a higher pain threshold and plenty of carbohydrates as fuel.

2. Total distance covered to date is 2612km. So, 3000km is on the horizon.
