Like most working couples, the missus and I have a morning routine for commuting to work. We leave together by car and then depending on traffic, I drop the missus off at the front doorstep or somewhere in the city where she takes a short 5-minute walk to the office.
Since changing jobs in June, the missus has decided to walk to the office. It is an extremely short walk. Although we leave together, I'm only halfway through my 4.5km commute, by car, when she calls to tell me that she has arrived at her office!
So these days, the only time the missus gets in the car is on weekends. I miss our chats and the banter in the morning.
A few Mondays ago, with crap weather forecasted, I popped on my warm and cozy fleece-lined North Face jacket. The last time I wore this jacket was in May – it was a very, very cold, rainy, windy and freezing day in Puckapanyal.
Oh, what’s this in my pocket? Ah... I forgot I had a spare set from a recent work event. You are going to come in very handy this Saturday.
He. He. He.
The scene is now set.
Saturday comes around... The missus and I have plans to head out to the countryside for the day. Car doors unlocked, we jump in. I start the engine and plug in the iPhone. I then turn to my lovely missus and this is how the conversation proceeded:
AK: I think I have everything I need for the day.
Aä: What do you mean?
AK: I haven't forgotten anything. Car keys, house keys, wallet, phone, watch, chapstick, ...
Aä: Sounds like you have all bases covered.
AK: And... Ear plugs.
Aä: What...?!? EAR PLUGS?!?
And then, the pummelling started... Everything else is a hazy blur.
AK: Hahaha!! I’ve been waiting ALL week to say this...
